The rituals ahead of the wedding in the Wadiyar family got off to a grand start at the Mysuru palace in the early hours of Saturday, with Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the scion of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family, performing rituals with a battery of priests.
The wedding will be performed as per the traditions practised for generations, with the extended family in full attendance. Mr. Yaduveer will marry Trishika Kumari, the second daughter of Harshvardhan Singh of Dungarpur ‘royal’ family at the palace Kalyana Mantapa on June 27.
Illuminated
Simultaneously, the century-old Amba Vilas Palace has been illuminated for the wedding.
The palace will be lit for one hour in the evening and the timing will be in tune with the rituals in the evening till June 29.
Tourists, who could not visit the palace in view of the marriage rituals, waited to watch the illumination from a distance on Saturday. Sources in the palace board told The Hindu that special permission had been granted by the State government for the illumination of the palace on the request of the royal family.
The board spends nearly Rs. 80 lakh every year towards maintenance of the illumination. There is a separate station of the KPTCL on the palace premises that deals with the illumination.
Rituals performed
After performing pujas to the deities, Mr. Yaduveer visited the temples on the palace premises, which had been specially decorated for the occasion. Thereafter, the 23-year-old Boston-educated Mr. Yaduveer performed rituals in the presence of seer of Parakala Mutt.
