The renovation work of ‘pancha loha’ kalashas of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple, a long-pending project, at Srirangapatna in the district has been completed.

The authorities concerned have completed the gold-coating work for the kalashas and will install them at the ‘Raja Gopura’ (tower) on Wednesday.

The installation will be held after completing certain rituals and poojas, B.R. Poornima, Additional Deputy Commissioner, told The Hindu . The temple was built during the reign of the Ganga dynasty in the 9th century. A 30-kg kalasha had fallen from the ‘Gopura’ in 2013. Subsequently, the remaining four kalashas were also removed from the tower.

Dearth of funds had been delaying the renovation works as at least 2 kg of gold was required for the coating works. “The donors wanted to remain anonymous,” Ms. Poornima told The Hindu . The proje ct was completed under the supervision and technical support of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and other agencies.
