In what is termed as the biggest disaster management plan conceived in the country, the State Disaster Management Authority has drawn up a blueprint to handle emergency situations that may arise during the five-day Aero India 2017 that will commence from February 14 at Yelahanka air force base.
In a first, personnel will also be equipped with B-SAT phones for uninterrupted communication.
The plan vetted by the Ministry of Defence involves deployment of over 600 officials from about 18 departments, 40 doctors, 70 nurses and paramedical staff, during the country’s premier bi-annual air show that attracts thousands of business delegates and general public.
“We are setting up a full-fledged control room that will have data centre, grievance cell and disaster management cell. Six separate squads will handle different issues. Five emergency response centres have been established around the air base,” K.K. Pradeep, Deputy Incident Commander, told The Hindu .
Among others, two helipads at HAL and ASC Centre in Domlur will be kept ready, while over 2,100 beds in 33 hospitals across the city have been blocked for the air show. “We conducted a mock drill on Thursday, in which eight hospitals participated. This was also a first in the country,” Mr. Pradeep said.
The Bengaluru traffic police will clear the the highway quickly if need arises, he added.
