As many as 94,698 farmers will benefit under the farmer loan waiver scheme in Yadgir district as officials of 98 branches of nationalised banks are ready to extend the scheme on Saturday. Therefore, farmers should approach banks concerned to submit the documents required to avail themselves of loan waiver, Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao has said.

He was addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Friday.

Mr. Rao said that farmers could register their names with banks where they had taken loans between December 15, 2018 and January 10, 2019. Again, farmers should approach the banks with details of survey number of land, a self-declaration and photocopies of their Aadhaar card and ration card on the date mentioned in the token given to them while registering their names, he explained.

The bankers have decided to register 40 names every day. However, the numbers can go up on demand, he added.

Cooperative loans

The Deputy Commissioner also said that entering names and other details of farmers who had availed themselves of loans from cooperative societies has already been completed and as per information available, 13,719 farmers are benefitting under this head. He added that Revenue and Police officials have been asked to extend cooperation to bankers during the drive.

“After the process of accepting details of farmers is completed, the next procedure will be carried out to actually waive loans,” Mr. Rao said and added that farmers should not entertain middlemen in the process.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that a proposal was sent to the government to procure eight lakh quintals of red gram for 2018-19 under price support scheme.

Lead Bank Manager R. Gopal and Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajput and others were present.
