87 per cent of textbooks already supplied to Chitradurga

To ensure that students get all textbooks on the first day of schools, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions’ office has made preparations to supply books to all taluks. Already 87 per cent of books have reached taluks and are ready to be distributed.

According to official sources, the block education officers of taluks have received the books and are waiting for the Deputy Commissioner’s permission to distribute them.

Since the Model Code of Conduct for the gram panchyat elections is in force, it’s mandatory to take permission from the Deputy Commissioner to distribute the books.

“The details of the books supplied from the Bengaluru head office has been uploaded online to ensure that every taluk in the State gets the required quantity of books on time,” sources added.

The department is also preparing to distribute uniforms along with textbooks. The district had submitted a proposal for 14,05,425 textbooks, including the demand by private schools for 2,05,257 text books. The department has already supplied 10,50,677 free textbooks and 1,82,062 textbooks for private schools, sources said.

The department is yet to supply 1,49,491 free textbooks and 23,195 textbooks for private schools.

Detailing about the requirement and supply of text books in different taluks of the district, sources said that in Hiriyur taluk the requirement was 1,81,746 textbooks in which 1,61,055 textbooks have already been supplied. Private schools had demanded 28,063 textbooks out of which 24,187 have been supplied.

In Chitradurga, 2,93,297 free books were needed and 2,58,580 have been supplied and private schools had demanded 67,556 text books out of which 60,802 have been supplied.
