836 booths to be set up in Chamarajanagar


A total of 6,73,704 people are expected to exercise their franchise in the ensuing zilla and taluk panchayat elections in the district.

Of them, 3,39,463 are male and 3,34,204 female voters. As per the official sources, there are 2,33,683 voters, comprising 1,17,137 male, 1,16,533 female and 13 “others” in Chamarajanagar taluk, followed by 1,52,848 (76,340 male, 76,597 female and 11 others, in Gundlupet, 59,557 (29,787 male, 29,767 female and 3 others) in Yelandur, and 2,27,616 voters (1,16,299 male,1,11,307 female and 10 others) in Kollegal taluks, respectively.

A total of 836 polling booths have been set up in the district. Of them, 168 have been identified as sensitive, 83 hyper-sensitive and 585 normal booths, respectively.


The Deputy Commissioner has issued the notification for conducting elections to 23 zilla and 89 taluk panchayat constituencies in the district. Of the 23 zilla panchayat constituencies, six are reserved for General category, six for general (woman), three for Scheduled Castes, one for Scheduled Tribes, three for Scheduled Castes (woman), two for Scheduled Tribes (woman) and one for Backward Class-A.


Of the 89 taluk panchayat constituencies, 23 are reserved for General category, 22 for general (woman), 11 for Scheduled Castes, four for Scheduled Tribes, 12 for Scheduled Castes (woman), six for Scheduled Tribes (woman) and two for Backward Classes-A, three for Backward Classes-B, and six for Backward Classes-A (woman), sources said.
