A seven-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered by a minor boy at an agricultural field at Shivara village in Mandya taluk.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, came to light on Monday morning. Later, the Keregodu police arrested the accused.
The police said the body of the girl, head bludgeoned with a stone, was found near a pump-house in the field.
The girl was missing since Sunday evening.
The accused allegedly abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered her, the police said.
According to the police, her relatives searched for the girl all around. Even as the police began searching for the victim, some farmers found her body.
The accused is a school dropout. Fearing that the girl would reveal the identity and the incident, he murdered her with a stone, an officer at the Keregodu police station said.
A case has been registered and investigation is on, Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, Superintendent of Police, Mandya, told The Hindu.
