As many as 7,99,422 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the elections to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) council, which is to be held on August 31. Of these, 4,01,730 are men and 3,97,692, women.

MCC Commissioner Jagadeesh told presspersons here on Friday that all citizens whose names figure on the voters list prepared and updated for the Assembly elections would be eligible to cast their vote. There will be no fresh revision of electoral rolls for elections to local bodies. The exercise in progress to update and revise the voters list will be completed only for the next parliamentary polls, he added.

There would be 725 polling booths across the 65 wards of the MCC, and in case the number of voters in any booth is more than 1,400, an auxiliary booth in the adjoining room of the same building would be set up, he said.

The date for elections to local bodies was announced by the State Election Commission on Thursday and the model code of conduct is already in place. The MCC Commissioner said they were ensuring that all banners and flexes proclaiming the achievements of the government and promoting any political party were removed.

Elections to three urban local bodies in the district — T. Narsipur, Periyapatna, and H.D. Kote — are scheduled for August 29. There are 26,291 eligible voters in T. Narsipur, 16,889 in Periyapatna, and 17,474 in H.D. Kote. The poll notification will be issued on August 13 and the last date for filing of nominations is August 20. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on August 21 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is August 23. The counting of votes will take place on September 3, as per the calendar of events.
