Water yet to reach Kallur barrage from Narayanpur reservoir

Deputy Commissioner R. Venkatesh Kumar said that the district authorities have been making considerable efforts to mitigate potable water shortage and are taking appropriate precautionary measures to meet the challenges in drought-hit taluks in Kalaburagi district. “There was a water supply issue in both urban and rural areas in the district. Water was released from the Almatti Dam to Narayanpur reservoir across the Krishna in Surpur taluk of Yadgir district a week ago and we are yet to receive water at Kallur barrage. There will be no water scarcity in the city once we get water at Kallur barrage,” Mr. Venkatesh Kumar said.

Several drought relief works have been taken up in rural areas and there is no impediment to continuing these works due to the prevailing drought conditions, he added.

Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat P. Raja said that a total of 780 villages in Kalaburagi district are facing shortage of drinking water. Around 20 villages were facing an acute drinking water crisis and these villages are being provided water through tankers, Dr. Raja added.
