45-day programme to get errors in EPIC rectified

To help citizens verify the electoral rolls and get their details corrected, the Election Commission of India launched Electors Verification Programme (EVP) on Sunday. The programme will be implemented till October 15.

Citizens can get details such as name, date of birth, father’s name, and address, corrected. The EVP also encourages citizens to come forward and authenticate their existing elector’s details by using one of the documents — Indian Passport, driving licence, Aadhaar, ration card or any other document as approved by the commission.

Details of family members can also be verified and corrected as the system integrates the details of the family and also makes sure they are allotted the same voting booth. Eligible family members can also apply.

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar said, “It is better for the citizens to apply online rather than offline. Those not having access to a computer or smart phone, can visit one of the Citizens Service Centres (CSS) to seek help.”

Acknowledging that most citizens needed to make multiple trips to correct their details, Mr. Kumar said the 45-day EVP would eliminate the need for such multiple trips.

How to get it done

Electors can get their details rectified through the ‘Voter Helpline’ mobile app of the ECI, National Voter’s Service Portal, or visit a CSC, voter facilitation centre at the Electoral Registration Officer’s office or Bapuji Seva Kendras. Details can be had from the helpline 1950.
