3 killed as canter hits lorry

Three persons including a couple were killed on the spot when a canter rammed a moving lorry on NH48 in Sira taluk of Tumakuru district on Tuesday.

The police said that the deceased have been identified as Lokesh (34), driver of the canter, and the couple, Hanumantharaju (40) and his wife Radha (35) of Holethondare in K.R.Nagar of Mysuru district.

The canter was going towards Bengaluru. The couple got into the canter at Ranebennur of Haveri district. The driver of the canter became drowsy and rammed his vehicle into the lorry which was moving on NH-48 near Dodda Aladamara in Sira taluk around 5 a.m. As a result, all the three were killed on the spot and the road was blocked for nearly three hours.

The police personnel struggled to clear the vehicles on the national highway.
