A campaign on Active Tuberculosis Detection which will go on till July 13 in Dharwad district was launched here by Mayor Sudhir Saraf on Monday.
Launching the campaign formally at Chitaguppi Hospital premises in Hubballi, Mr. Saraf highlighted the significance of awareness in combating diseases that spread easily.
The campaign is part of the Union government’s ambitious project of making India ‘TB Free’ by 2025. Under it, people are being screened for active TB. The campaign is being carried out across the State from July 2 to 13.
Tanuja K.N., District Tuberculosis Control Officer, said that under the campaign it had been planned to screen 2.5 lakh people in Dharwad district and 175 teams had been formed for this purpose.
She said people in rural areas, slums, old age homes, orphanages, building workers, destitute persons, street children, workers of kilns (of brick & puffed rice) and inmates of prisons would be screened.
Dr. Tanuja said persons with symptoms of the disease would be further subjected to various tests for confirmation. They would be subjected to the advanced CB-NAAT (GeneXpert) test at District Civil Hospital in Dharwad and KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.
She said those with the disease would then be treated giving a weekly incentive of ₹500 for patients suffering from nutrition deficiency. People with complaints of cough for over two weeks, fever in the evenings, blood in phlegm and weight loss should immediately get themselves tested for TB, Dr. Tanuja said.
Chief Health Officer of Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation P.N. Biradar; Taluk Health Officer Prameela; Advisor to WHO Spoorthy Gowda, and others were present.
