June 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Bidar:

The State Cabinet on Thursday cleared a proposal to build a 23-km ring road at Rs. 47 crore in Bidar city. This covers half of the 55-km ring road planned around the city. Most of the land was donated by farmers.

The approved stretch connects Dev Dev Vana on Bidar-Hyderabad road to the Naubad industrial area on Bidar-Srirangapattana highway. It passes through areas like Halladkeri, Haroorgeri, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University and Kolar-Bujurg villages. Funds from Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board and Nagarothana scheme of the Urban Development Department will be utilised.

Public Works Department and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board will be the implementing agencies. The State Cabinet sitting in Kalaburagi had given an in-principle approval for the project in 2012 and the concerned agencies were asked to prepare a detailed report. The first stretch of Rs. 9 crore was also approved in the same meeting. After the preparation of the project report, the cost escalated by around Rs. 2 crore. Officials of several departments had to coordinate for this project.
