May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - MYSURU:

The city police have arrested retired Assistant Registrar of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Krishnamurthy and his associate Manjunath on the charge of cheating seven persons after promising them jobs.

The police said the accused had collected Rs. 12.4 lakh from the complainants after promising them jobs in the KSOU.

Udayagiri police said the accused were presented before the court, which remanded them in judicial custody. The complainants, all residents of N.R. Mohalla here, said the accused reportedly told them the KSOU was recruiting clerks in May and June this year and convinced them to pay a bribe to secure the jobs. Only after they learnt that there was no such recruitment did the complainants realise that they had been taken for a ride by Krishnamurthy and his associate.

After they lodged a complaint, Udayagiri police arrested the accused and interrogated them before booking them for cheating.
