February 01, 2017 10:59 pm | Updated 10:59 pm IST - HUBBALLI:

South Western Railway has got 19.17% increase in allocations in the Union Budget when compared to the previous financial year.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, General Manager of SWR Ashok Kumar Gupta said the railway zone had been allocated ₹3,174 crore for 2017-18.

He said that since the ‘Pink Book’ was yet to be tabled in Parliament, they were not able to give project-wise allocations. However, he said a major portion of the allocations would go to Hubballi-Chikkajajur and Hubballi-Hosapete line doubling works. Mr. Gupta said 34 A1, A and B category railway stations under SWR would be provided with escalators/ramps and two railway stations — Bangalore Cantonment and Yeshwantpur — would be redeveloped.
