Cycling enthusiasts will congregate in Hubballi on January 26 to celebrate Republic Day by attempting a Guinness record during ‘Cyclostsava-2019’.
Already, 1,500 cyclists have registered for the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for ‘longest line of moving bicycles’. Registrations are open till January 17.
Hubballi Bicycle Club chairman Shrikanth Deshpande, event convener Anand Baid and others told presspersons here on Friday that registrations could be done on www.hbcriders.com or by calling 91085 07179.
At present, the record is held by Bangladesh, with 1,186 cyclists riding 3.2 km in 2016 to set the record. The HBC, mentored by V.S.V. Prasad and supported by several organisations, will attempt to break the record by getting 1,500 cyclists to ride 8 km in a line.
Mr. Baid said ultra-cyclists Amit Samarth, Hitendra Mahajan, and Mahendra Mahajan, ace north Karnataka cyclist Sandesh Uppar, and specially-abled cyclist Govind Kharol would participate in the event.
He said the cycling route from Akshay Enclave, Keshwapur, to the NH bypass, near Kusugal, would be completed blocked to facilitate the attempt. Adjudicators of the Guinness Book of World Records will be present, he said.
Test ride
Mr. Deshpande said that ahead of the record attempt, a test ride would be conducted on the scheduled route on January 20. As per schedule, the record attempt will begin at 2.30 p.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. If the first attempt fails, a second attempt will start immediately and will conclude by 5.30 p.m.
Anyone above the age of 15 can participate in the event. There is a registration fee of ₹500 per person. Each participant will get a tricolour jersey, certificate of participation, and finisher medal.
