144 succumbed to man-animal conflict in four years

Minister for Forest Satish Jarkiholi informed the Legislative Council on Wednesday that 144 people were killed in man-animal conflict in the State in the past four years and compensation of ₹7.22 crore had been given to the next of their kin.

During a debate on man-animal conflict, Mr. Jarkiholi said that the government had taken various measures to contain such conflicts. He promised members from Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan of visiting the region to asses the situation. 

VTU issue

Members cutting across party lines opposed a proposal to bifurcate Visweswaraya Technological University (VTU) and starting a new campus in Hassan. Members including Kavatagi Mutt of the BJP, and S.R. Patil of the Congress argued that the move was discrimination against north Karnataka region.
