The Hubballi Police have seized 14 kilograms of ganja and arrested five persons in connection with the case.
Police Commissioner M.N. Nagaraj told presspersons here on Wednesday that based on a tip-off, the police carried out a raid near Karwar Road Underbridge on the outskirts of Hubballi on Wednesday and arrested the accused.
Mr. Nagaraj gave the names of the accused as Roshan Rajivbabu Miryala (24) of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh; Sachin Adiveppa Hebballi (22), Ajay Balaji Dixit (25) of Heggeir Maruti Nagar, Hubballi; Kalappa Maruteppa Nagannavar (76) of Giriyal village in Hubballi taluk and Mehaboob Subani Imam Hussain Patil (46) of Kavalavad village in Haliyal taluk of Uttar Kannada district.
He said that the seized consignment was worth around ₹ 1 lakh and the accused had purchased ganja from a peddler in Andhra Pradesh. He said that further investigation was on. Old Hubballi Station Police have booked a case. The Police Commissioner said that he had announced a cash reward of ₹ 10,000 to the team involved in arresting the accused.
