‘Music in Schools’, a new initiative of the Department of Kannada and Culture, together with the Mysuru District Administration and the Department of Public Instruction, got off to a start here on Monday.
A government school at Rajendranagar was the first to be covered under the programme that aims to develop pique children’s interest in music. Artistes, who are part of the initiative, will educate the children on music and its effective use. A team will travel to the schools in a vehicle equipped with musical instruments for performances.
Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited H.A. Venkatesh and ZP President Nayeema Sultana were present during the launch of the initiative. Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh, DDPI H.R. Basappa, Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa and Karnataka Nataka Academy Member M.R. Ramachandra were present.
The teams – Kaveriyana and Kapilayana, named after two rivers – Cauvery and Kapila, will travel to schools selected under the programme.
The programme will be held for an hour daily at each school. The initiative concludes on February 14. Around 30,000 students are expected to benefit from the programme.
