With Kannada television channels beaming news reports that Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA, is likely to be inducted as a Minister in the State Cabinet on Sunday, Congress party leaders and workers burst crackers in front of the Clock Tower here on Saturday.

Those present on the occasion included Meenakshi Bannanje, president of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), Ramesh Kanchan, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Satish Amin, Chandrika Shetty, Diwaker Kundar, Yatish Karkera, and Gita Shet, Congress leaders.

Mr. Kanchan said here that Mr. Madhwaraj had done a good job as Parliamentary Secretary to the Revenue Minister. “He will do justice to whichever Ministry is given to him. There will be more development in Udupi city and district with him as Minister,” he said.

Meanwhile, there was despondency among supporters of Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, who, according to the television channels, was likely to lose his post in the Cabinet reshuffle.

The leaders of Billava community, to which Mr. Sorake belongs, will be holding a meeting to discuss political developments at Katapady near here on Sunday.
