Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) member Kanimozhi on Thursday raised the attack on Tamil news channel `Puthiya Thalamurai' in the Rajya Sabha.

Providing details about the attack in Ekkaduthangal, on the outskirts of Chennai early on Thursday morning, she said the hurling of bombs into the TV channel's office was part of the ongoing campaign against the network for a programme questioning the value of the `thali' (mangalsutra).

As All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) members began objecting to her raising the issue without notice, Ms. Kanimozhi sought to assure them that she was not criticising the State Government but raising the issue of freedom of expression.

She said such attacks on freedom of expression were on the rise; referring to the recent attacks on Tamil literary chronicler Perumal Murugan who has since declared the ``death of the author'' in him.
