Retired IPS officer K. Vijay Kumar, one of the five advisers to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Satya Pal Malik, will be relieved of his services on “conclusion of his term.”
Mr. Kumar, a 1975 batch officer, was appointed in 2018 to assist Mr. Malik in shaping the security strategy.
“I am not resigning, my term as an adviser to J&K Governor has concluded. I will participate in the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow of the new LG [Lieutenant Governor] in Srinagar tomorrow. After that I will come back,” Mr. Kumar told The Hindu .
When asked if he was expecting a reappointment, he said, “do not speculate.”
October 31 is the day when Union Territories (UT) of J&K and Ladakh will come into existence.
Last week, President Ram Nath Kovind transferred Mr. Malik to Goa. The Centre appointed Girish Chandra Murmu, a 1985 batch IAS officer currently serving as Expenditure secretary, as the LG of J&K and retired IAS officer of the 1977 batch Radha Krishna Mathur as the Ladakh LG.
Mr. Malik had retired IAS officers Khurshid A. Ganai, K.K Sharma, K. Skandan and Farooq Khan as the other advisers. There is a question mark on their continuance in the posts as they are much senior to Mr. Murmu
