Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Thursday after he complained of uneasiness at his residence in Srinagar.
He was flown to Delhi in a state aircraft. Seventy-nine-year-old Mr. Sayeed’s condition is stable and he is now in a private ward.
“He was admitted with the chief complaint of fever. His condition is stable. He is being looked after by a team of doctors from the departments of Endocrinology and Medicine. He will undergo investigations to know the cause of his problem,” said Amit Gupta, AIIMS spokesperson and Additional Professor of Trauma Surgery and Critical Care, at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Dr. Gupta said there was no cause for worry and the J&K Chief Minister was scheduled to undergo a series of tests to rule out any health complications. “He is doing well and is stable and under the constant care of our physicians,” Dr. Gupta said.
An official spokesman at Srinagar said Mr. Sayeed proceeded to New Delhi for consultation and health check-up at the AIIMS on Thursday morning. “The Chief Minister undertook a hectic six-hour tour of Srinagar on Tuesday in intense cold, after which he complained of exhaustion. On Wednesday, he took complete rest at his official residence,” said the official spokesman.
Sources said the cold not only gave the CM a stiff neck, but he complained of bleeding through nose as well. “It was felt appropriate to proceed to the Union capital for consultation and medical check-up. The Chief Minister’s health is absolutely fine and he is taking rest,” the spokesman added.
A senior physician at the AIIMS noted that the Mufti was scheduled to visit the hospital for a routine check-up under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ganie, Assistant Professor, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Mr. Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti, also PDP president and Member of Parliament, had to cancel a high-profile dinner organised at Gulmarg on the eve of Christmas, where he was to host a number of guests from outside.
