First-time Jharkhand MP Jayant Sinha, who was sworn in as a Minister of State, is the son of former Union Finance and External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and Harvard University, U.S.

He faced severe opposition from the BJP cadre in Hazaribagh, where he was elected from, because of his relatively low profile in comparison to his father. However, he scored a massive win over the Congress in the seat.

Before entering politics, he spent 12 years at the New Delhi and Boston offices of management consulting firm McKinsey and Company as an investment fund manager and a management consultant. Until recently, he was a partner at the California-based Omidyar Foundation, a charitable agency.
