BJP candidate accused of assault

A Bharatiya Janata Party candidate allegedly slapped a polling official in Srinagar and another beat up a polling agent of an Independent candidate in south Kashmir during polling on Sunday.

Hinna Bhat, contesting in the Amira Kadal constituency, allegedly slapped Malik Suhail, presiding officer of the Chanapora polling station.

“I was helping an old woman who had not seen an electronic voting machine and was consistently trying to put her voting slip in the EVM,” Mr. Suhail said.

At the Moshwara polling station in Shopian in south Kashmir, BJP candidate Javed Qadri allegedly assaulted a polling agent Shabbir Ahmad. The police have registered an FIR.
