NEW DELHI India’s status in global affairs at present is that of a State that extends issue-based support to other powers, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said on Thursday at the annual Raisina Dialogue.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Gokhale laid out the advantages and trends in Indian foreign affairs and highlighted the challenges before the nation. Among the challenges facing the country, Mr. Gokhale pointed out "unilateralism vs multilateralism, science versus ethics".

The official’s speech indicated India’s quest for rules-based world order which will help in free movement of people and trade practices across the world.

Mr. Gokhale’s speech was among the last events for the mega think-tank summit that is organised by the Observer Research Foundation with support from the Ministry of External Affairs.
