U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said on Saturday that she had voted against the bill for grant of military assistance to Pakistan in the U.S. Congress.

She mentioned this when asked about the approval last month by the U.S. Congress for $1 billion military assistance to Pakistan as part of the Defence Authorisation Bill and said these were the complications of democracies.

She was talking on the “Future of Indo-U.S. relations” organised by India Foundation.

Ms. Gabbard said that there were areas of disagreement between India and the U.S., but there were greater areas of agreement. She called for greater cooperation in caring for the environment.

Talking about her personal journey, she said: “The sayings in the Gita are my life and soul. In my experience it is the perfect textbook.” She is on the last lap of her 15-day visit to India.
