Bangladesh Foreign Minister pays tributes to Hazarika

Bangladesh has mourned noted singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika who was intimately linked with its birth. Bhupen da had backed the Mukti Bahini's 1971 War of Liberation with full-throated compositions even as some other songs celebrated the common culture of the subcontinent's eastern part.

His song “ Joy Joy Nobojato Bangladesh; Joy Joy Mukti Bahini ... (triumphal salutations to newly born Bangladesh; triumphal salutations to the freedom fighters)” written on the War of Liberation of Bangladesh “would ring forever in the hearts of our people,” said Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni in a condolence letter to her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna.

Bangladesh would also remember Dr. Hazarika for his legendary song, “ Ganga Amar Ma, Padma Amar Ma, Amar Dui Chokhe Dui Joler Dhara, Meghna Jamuna ... (Ganges is my mother, Padma is my mother, the two streams of tears in my two eyes are Meghna and Jamuna ...).”

“It impeccably symbolises the inseparable bondage of identity and culture of the people across the border in our two countries. “The class and quality of his musical creations are of such heights that the People people of the region would always remember those with divine passion and respect,” Dr. Moni recalled.
