Guwahati Express derails at Mantapampalli

November 17, 2015 12:52 pm | Updated 12:52 pm IST - KURNOOL:

Two coaches of the Guwahati-Chennai Express derailed near Mantapampalli between Nandalur and Vontimitta railway stations in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours of Tuesday.

However, there were no casualties or injuries to the passengers, according to railway officials. The derailment took place due to mud settling on a portion of the railway track as water flowed over it due to heavy rains.

Several trains bound for Tirupati and Chennai were detained en route on account of the derailment. The Haripriya Express was detained at Yerraguntla railway station, Venkatadri Express at Kamalapuram and Egmore Express at Bhakrapet railway station. Railway officials began efforts to remove the derailed coaches from the track, examine and rectify the damaged track and restore movement of trains.

Meanwhile, some other trains were temporarily detained at other railway stations owing to a technical snag in the signaling system on the Guntakal-Tirupati route.
