A moderate turnout of 51% was registered in the byelections to six Assembly constituencies in Gujarat on Monday. The seats are Radhanpur, Tharad, Amraiwadi, Kheralu, Lunavada and Bayad.

In Tharad, Lunavada, Kheralu and Amraiwadi, the byelections were necessitated after the sitting BJP legislators were elected to Parliament. In Radhanpur and Bayad, sitting Congress legislators Alpesh Thakor and Dhawalsinh Zala defected to the BJP and are seeking re-election from their respective seats.

The figures shared by the Election Commission show that the highest turnout of 68.9% was registered in Tharad in Banaskantha district, while the lowest of 31.5% was in Ahmedabad city’s Amraiwadi Assembly seat.

The counting will be held on October 24 along with the counting for Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana and bypolls to several seats across the country.
