Security personnel stand guard at the Red Fort after a grenade was found in a well, in New Delhi on Friday.

Three months after a large cache of arms was found on the premises of the Red Fort, a grenade was discovered inside a well at the historical monument on Thursday.

According to the police, the explosive was spotted around 6 p.m. during a cleaning operation by workers of the Archaeological Survey of India. Subsequently, the police and the National Security Guard (NSG) were informed.

The grenade was then removed by an unmanned robot deployed by the NSG. “The robot was covered with a bomb blanket to avert any casualties,” a police officer said.

He added that the fort was being scanned for more explosives.

“Underwater cameras are being used to detect any other explosive that may be lying inside the well,” said the officer.

In February, several ammunition boxes were also found inside a well on the premises of the fort during a cleaning operation.
