Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday lodged a protest alleging media gag at the Gorakhpur by-election vote counting centre in Uttar Pradesh.

While the Finance Bill and the Appropriation Bill were passed by voice vote amid slogan-shouting by Opposition members on various issues, the protest on the Gorakhpur issue continued till the House was adjourned for the day.

The agitated members accused the Uttar Pradesh government and its Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of attempting to silence the media and sought the Speaker’s intervention to “save the democracy.”
