Gopalkrishna steps down as chairman of Kalakshetra, IIAS

Former diplomat Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Wednesday resigned from chairmanships of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) here and the Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, maintaining that his decision was in keeping with the convention followed during a change in government. Mr. Gandhi was a frequent participant at IIAS seminars and chaired its governing body for more than two years. Under his leadership, the IIAS set up a Tagore Chair and a South Asian Countries Regional Centre.

His move comes a couple days after the publication of his open letter to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi in The Hindu.

The letter, wherein he urged Mr. Modi to revisit the idea of a nation, got a massive response on social media.
