The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), will organise demonstrations in about 10 major cities towards the end of October, where girl students will showcase self-defence techniques.
This is part of the ABVP’s Mission Saahasi, under which the organisation wishes to train up to one lakh girl students in colleges and universities across India to defend themselves in case of a physical assault.
During his three-day lecture series here that ended Wednesday, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat made a reference to the training that the Sangh affiliate is imparting to female students. “Our training module is already on. Between October 25 and 30, we will hold grand events in 10 different cities where the girls undergoing training will demonstrate their skills,” ABVP national joint organising secretary Shrinivas told The Hindu .
The cities where these events will be held include Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and Indore.
“We have prepared a syllabus for this training, which is called ‘Critical Situation Handling Programme’. There are ways in which we will teach girls to be fearless and use things like their I-card, pen, knee, mobile phone, etc., as weapons if assaulted. We also wish to take the teachers and parents on board so that girls are taught to be fearless and not see themselves as weak,” Mr. Shrinivas said.
