Gauhati HC approves post retirement facilities for Ranjan Gogoi

The Gauhati High Court has approved a proposal to provide some facilities for Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and his wife Rupanjali Gogoi after his retirement on November 17.

The facilities include a private secretary for the couple to look after their day-to-day requirements and coordinate with the “Registry for any protocol-related requirements” and a chauffeur-driven vehicle belonging to the High Court for use on fuel basis.

The full court, comprising 17 judges headed by Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh had met on October 30 to “consider the resolution” adopted by the Protocol Committee regarding the services to be rendered to Mr Gogoi.

The full court approved the Protocol Committee’s proposals “considering the unique accomplishment” of Mr. Gogoi to provide the services after his retirement as an “institutional courtesy”.

The three-member committee, comprising Justices Suman Shyam, H.K. Sarma and S.K. Medhi, also noted that Mr Gogoi, who had served the Gauhati High Court, had chosen to settle down in Guwahati after his retirement.

The other facilities to be provided are a grade IV peon, a bungalow peon and a nodal officer to be identified from the Registry to coordinate with the private secretary.
