Even as a delegation of students and alumni members of the Film and Television Institute of India (Pune) held parleys with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry officials on Friday to resolve their 25-day-old strike, the Ministry officials made it clear that there would be no going back on the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as director of the institute. The students had brought their fight to New Delhi as more people lend their support to their cause.

Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty and film-maker Girish Kasaravalli were part of the delegation which met a group of senior Ministry officials led by the joint secretary Films, K. Sanjay Murti.

The appointment of Mr. Chauhan had triggered protests among the students as they called for a person of a higher stature to head the institution.
