Flood victim ends life in Gujarat


A 40-year-old farmer from the flood-hit Banaskantha district in Gujarat died after he immolated self, demanding higher compensation for the crops and cattle he lost in the floods that ravaged the north Gujarat district. The farmer, Dinesh Thakor, had attended a rally taken out by more than 500 victims on August 18 seeking enhanced compensation.

After he set himself on fire, he was immediately shifted to the civil hospital in Ahmedabad. He died on Tuesday night.

“The victim was paid ₹7000, apart from compensation for the loss of cattle, but he was not satisfied,” a government official from Dhanera town said.

He is survived by wife and two children.
