An FIR was lodged after a video went viral showing a teacher holding an axe against the neck of a schoolboy, evoking instant public outrage.
The man is seen threatening to kill the minor student in north Kashmir’s Handwara. The boy is seen crying in panic as he was pinned down by the man.
“The police have taken cognizance of the video. A case under FIR number 167/2019 was registered in Handwara under relevant Sections of law. The video has been captured before a few months,” said Asish Mishra, SP, Handwara.
He said a few persons, who were believed to have knowledge about the incident, were detained and “are being questioned”.
“I urge people to cooperate with the police in dealing with such unlawful acts,” he said.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the incident was captured on a mobile at the Future Education Institute Wagahat-Magam.
