BJP’s Kisan Morcha chief Veerendra Singh Mast on Friday indicated that some big decisions for the farm sector, specifically to boost the income of farmers, were on the anvil. This came a day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hinted that the Budget exercise may see an announcement or two of the kind.

Mr. Mast was briefing journalists about the national executive meet of the farmers’ cell of the party to be held on February 23 and 24 at Gorakhpur with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to address the concluding session.

“The Narendra Modi government has already taken many historic decisions for farmers’ welfare and, in the near future, some more decisions will be taken to boost farmers’ income,” he said.

Mr. Mast declined to share any details. He maintained that loan waivers of the kind announced by the Congress-led governments were not a permanent solution to the problems facing the farmers.
