The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, and two companies in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.

Advantage Strategic Consulting Private Ltd. and Chess Management Services have been arraigned in the chargesheet. The agency says Mr. Karti controlled Advantage Strategic while he was a promoter of the second company.

Mr. Karti has, on several occasions, denied his involvement in the matter.

The ED has alleged that Chess Management received about ₹90 lakh from Maxis and its associate Malaysian companies purportedly for software services. The software was designed to be used for compliance with Indian laws and was not of any use to a Malaysian company.

Reacting to the ED move, Mr. P. Chidambaram tweeted: “The complaint [chargesheet] filed by ED against Karti Chidambaram and others is seriously flawed.”
