The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday “briefed” the newly appointed Bhartiya Janata Party president Amit Shah about the mother organisation’s expectations from the BJP and also asked him “not to allow Modi government to overshadow the party” at a meeting in the RSS headquarters here.

The BJP president, who was >visiting the RSS headquarters for the first time after being appointed the BJP chief, held an hour-long discussion with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

According to some RSS sources, the RSS chief “conveyed” his expectations from the BJP and “briefed” Mr. Shah on “Sangh’s Hindutva agenda” which includes Ram temple in Ayodhya, Article 370 and the Uniform Civil Code.

Mr.Shah, however, refused to interact with the media.

According to former RSS member and thinker Dilip Deodhar, during the days of Vajpayee government, the government had overshadowed the party organisation. “Amit Shah definitely got instruction on Friday to make the BJP no less powerful than the government. Another trend witnessed during the previous NDA regime was the organisation of the BJP had followed the mantra of ‘Delhi to Galli’[Delhi to street]. But the RSS expects Amit Shah to make the party organisation strong with more importance to ground level dedicated workers,” Mr.Deodhar told The Hindu.

Mr. Shah’s meeting with RSS chief was a “customary meeting,” a source said.
