A Delhi court on Monday remanded AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran and his co-accused Mallikarjuna to judicial custody in the case of alleged attempt to bribe the Election Commission.

He allegedly tried to bribe the panel for the allotment of ‘two leaves’ symbol to the Amma faction for a byelection to the R.K. Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu which was later cancelled by the EC.

Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary remanded the two accused to judicial custody till May 15, after the Delhi police produced them submitting that their further custodial interrogation was not required.

Later, the court directed the Tihar Central Jail authorities to produce the politician and his accomplice before the court through videoconferencing after their lawyers expressed security concerns.

The police also submitted that investigation was still going on, and a number of witnesses were yet to be examined.

Meanwhile, the court also extended the judicial custody of alleged hawala operator Nathu Singh, another accused in the case, till May 15 after he was produced before it on the expiry of his one-day judicial custody.
