Demand for Jaitley’s resignation is absurd: BJP

Aam Aadmi Party’s demand for Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s resignation was “absurd” and a “non-issue” as there was no wrongdoing involved, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Thursday.

“There is no question of resignation of Arun Jaitley ji . They (AAP) are playing their political cards as this is no issue,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

The AAP has accused Jaitley of being involved in “huge financial bunglings” while he chaired the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013. The party is due on Thursday to make some “major revelations” about the “DDCA scam”.

Mr. Naidu said: “This is an absurd issue and it has no relevance at all. He (Jaitley) has not done anything wrong, so why should he quit?”

By hiding its own misdeeds AAP was claiming that the whole world is dishonest, he added.

Congress has added its voice to AAP’s demand for Mr. Jaitley’s resignation and demanded an investigation by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into financial irregularities that the former DDCA chief has allegedly been involved in.
