Suspected militants opened fire on a CRPF patrol in busy Sanat Nagar area of Srinagar on Tuesday. There were no reports of any casualties.

A CRPF spokesman said two motorcycle-borne militants appeared at Sanat Nagar Chowk around 6:45 p.m. and fired upon CRPF vehicles belonging to the 27 Battalion.

Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that commuters were stuck inside their vehicles for at least 10 minutes as militants and security forces exchanged fire.

The police said militants escaped from the spot “taking advantage of the darkness.” “There was no casualty,” the police said.

Reinforcements were sent to the spot and the area was cordoned off. However, no attacker was nabbed.
