Amid reports of violence in some of the constituencies of West Bengal going to the polls on Monday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday urged the Election Commission to appoint special observers and ensure that Central paramilitary forces conduct route marches in all polling areas to encourage people to vote.
In a letter to the Election Commission, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said a party candidate was among the many injured in the violence unleashed by the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Polling is scheduled to take place in 17 constituencies on Monday. While the first two of the five phases of polling in the State were incident-free, all Opposition parties have alleged irregularities in the subsequent rounds of polling.
Seven injured in pre-poll violence

Seven workers — four belonging to the CPI(M) and three to the Trinamool — were injured in a violence at Belghoria in the outskirts of Kolkata on Saturday night. Five persons have been arrested.
