Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Israel later this year, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday said not only would India be abandoning Palestine for Israel, it is also showing no qualms about supporting the “racist and reactionary’’ dispensation of Benjamin Netanyahu.

In its editorial in the upcoming edition of party organ, People’s Democracy , the CPI(M) said the initiative to put India-Israel ties on a new footing was in line with the overall foreign policy direction of the Modi government to “entangle India fully’’ in the geo-political strategy of the U.S.

“His visit will also signal the abandonment of India’s commitment to an independent Palestinian state,’’ it said.
