The two-day State committee meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) began on Saturday in the presence of general secretary Prakash Karat.

While the meeting reviewed the results of the recent Assembly elections in West Bengal, the draft of which was presented by Biman Bose, the attack on farmers who are facing eviction was also discussed.

Members narrated incidents of attacks on party workers since the formation of the new government.

“Farmers are being evicted from their lands, attacks are being organised against them,” a party statement said adding the elected panchayats were not being allowed to work. Instead of protecting the rights of the elected representatives, the administration was abetting the attackers.
