Angry villagers lynched a couple on Saturday night in connection with the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Manipur.
The incident took place near a hillock at Wabagai in Thoubal district. The victim’s body was found tied to a tree stump by the villagers, three days after she went missing.Surnajoy Samchetsabam (42), a local resident, was beaten to death, after he allegedly confessed to a few villagers.
The villagers learnt that his wife Amutombi (40) also knew about the crime. They then lynched her too. The police have not arrested anyone yet in connection with the lynching. However, some batons suspected to have been used in the twin killings were seized.
