Coronavirus | 13 districts account for nearly 9% COVID-19 active cases, 14% deaths: Health Ministry

Thirteen districts in eight States/UT, including Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata and Delhi, account for nearly 9% COVID-19 active cases and about 14% deaths, said the Health Ministry on Saturday which has now asked these areas to tighten measures to contain the virus. It said a surge in cases has been reported from four districts — Kamrup Metro in Assam, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha.

The Ministry held a meeting with the States reporting high case load and said these areas also had reported low tests per million and high confirmation percentage.

The 13 districts include Patna, Ranchi, Ganjam, 24 Paraganas North, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata and Maldah and Delhi.

Low lab utilisation

The States were advised to address low lab utilisation, low tests per million population, decrease in absolute tests from last week, delay in test results and high confirmation percentage among the health care workers.

“They were advised to ensure timely referral and hospitalisation in view of reports from some districts of patients dying within 48 hours of admission,” said the Ministry.
