The apex body for child rights, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), called a meeting of its State wings on Friday to ensure protection and care of children orphaned due to COVID-19.

“State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights from across the country were present today. We wanted to know if they were facing any difficulties in implementation of Juvenile and Justice Act, 2015, which deals with abandoned, missing and orphaned children. We also asked States to share the various best practices being followed for caring for children orphaned during the pandemic,” NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo said after the meeting.

Mr. Kanoongo said that the NCPCR will soon be finalising its recommendations on the issue and sending them to all State governments.
